It is on a sad note that I begin my first "blogging experience". I have started 2010 as a "non-runner" which, in my mind, is a rather unhappy place to be. More depressing still is that, at this stage, there appears to be no light at the end of the long, dark, miserable tunnel. I am counting down the days until my next visit to the sports doc where he will decide on the next step towards finding a diagnosis for my faulty hip. In the meantime I am driving myself crazy doing my own detective work (Google is a dangerous tool in the hands of an injured runner!).
So, as for the things miss....
The solitude of an early morning run - even more so on a cold, crisp winter's morning.
A late afternoon "shuffle" during a hot Durban summer - hoping to make it back alive.
Having something to plan for, train for, look forward to.
The indescribable feeling of just having run a PB (usually preceded by the "I am about to pass out feeling").
Aching legs after Saturday's long run.
Track sessions at the UKZN field...or rather the joy of having survived one.
The "after work Shell-garage and back run" - last hill optional depending on how bad mine or Jason's day had been.
The excitement of new running shoes.
Waving at other runners passing by.
The feeling of being strong and invincible.
Being able to say "I'm going for a run".
